Voila! The selected cube moves and its point of origin “fits with a snap” into the cursor. This time we are doing the opposite, we are moving a selection, which is the whole cube (as we are in Object mode), to the cursor, which we left sitting at the vertex of the cube on the right. Please note: Previously we were moving the cursor to a selection, which was a vertex (we were in Edit mode, to be able to access individual vertices). Right click the cube on the left to select it. Now all is set and we are ready to move the cube on the left and snap it to the cube on the right. Right click to select the vertex which we will be snapping to. Now right click on the other cube to select it. “The origin” of the object, the little orange dot-ball, moves to the vertex. (You must be in Object mode to do this or you will get an error message) Hit Ctrl+Shift+Alt+C -> “Origin to 3D Cursor”.

Hit Tab to Exit Edit mode and return to the Object mode. Obviously, the strategic placement of the cursor in this context means placing it at the corner of the box to snap to.Ĭlick right on the cube on the left to select it. The basic idea is that we strategically place the cursor somewhere at the scene, and then tell Blender to move the object so that its point of origin coincides with the cursor. CURSOR, the little red-white dashed ring with the black cross (and not the bigger white ring with 3d axis attached, that is the 3D Transform Manipulator).

Randomize the orientation of assets in a single click. Snap the assets directly to the ground within a single click. It is our “reference point” for operations with the object. Choose between if the asset is to be spawned at the world origin or at the 3d cursor. POINT OF ORIGIN of the object, the miniature orange ball you can see for the object which is selected.

We say move, select one box, choose as the point of reference intersection at a corner, then move the box with object snap to the intersection at a corner of another box.īasically we are playing with two elements here: Situation: We have an object (a cube) which we want to move and stick it precisely to a particular point at another object (another cube).ĪutoCAD analogue: We have two boxes.
